Description

The Chestnuts is a detached house dating from the early 19th century, situated in Ball’s Green, Minchinhampton. The house is constructed of coursed and squared limestone with ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. It consists of a main two-storey front range with an attic and cellar, and a parallel rear range projecting to the east.

The south front of the main range has a three-window facade with 12-pane sash windows in plain surrounds. A central doorway is framed by a pedimented Tuscan porch, with later infill on either side. A plain modillion cornice runs along the top, with a blocking course below. Two 20th-century flat-roofed dormers are present. The gable ends have parapets and chimneys with moulded caps. Recessed to the right is the front elevation of the projecting rear range, which also has a modillion cornice. This range features a two-window facade with large 15-pane sashes on the ground floor and 12-pane sashes above. An open-fronted conservatory verandah is attached. Various windows are located on the gable ends of both ranges, including attic casements with segmental arched heads. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
