Description

Yewtree House and Cobbs are two houses built in the early 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the early and mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of random and coursed rubble limestone, with some red brick, stone chimneys, and Welsh slate roofs.

The original house was arranged in an L-shape with a projecting wing. Later additions were made to the wing and to the rear of the main block, creating a re-entrant courtyard. The front of the main house has a three-window arrangement, with 12-pane sash windows and timber lintels. The central doorway has a four-panel door with an ironwork porch and a continuous hoodmould above. A single-storey canted bay window is located to the right of the doorway. There are indications of previous mullioned windows. Two gable end chimneys are also present.

The projecting wing has a small-paned ground floor fixed window and an upper floor, two-light chamfered mullioned casement window with a hoodmould. There are indications that the roof was raised above the wing. A parallel addition to the wing features a front gable with an off-centre attic iron casement and a gable-mounted brick chimney. The north side includes a late 19th-century addition with iron casements and a 20th-century garage door.

At the rear, there is a two-light chamfered mullioned casement window with a hoodmould on the upper floor, and evidence of a former two-light window on the ground floor. A parallel, late 19th-century addition now forms Cobbs on the west side of the courtyard. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. A pump stand is located in the courtyard against the rear wall of Yewtree House.
