Description
Nos 2 and 3 The Cottages are former dwellings, now used for storage, dating from the 19th century. The building is constructed of squared rubble with a stone slate roof. It is a single block featuring a central gable and flanking Cotswold gables. The structure has three storeys and five windows; the top floor has three-light casements, while the first and ground floors each have a three-light casement with a transom. There is a notable six-panel wide door to No. 3. The interior has suffered significant deterioration. The roof structure is supported by posts above the tie beams, with a corbel block similar to that found in Under the Hill House, and the feet of the principal rafters are slightly curved towards the vertical. The main top floor beams and ties extend through to the outer wall face. This group of cottages is a rare survival in an area that has seen much clearance and alteration in the 20th century.
