Description
The wall with a medieval doorway at Listers Works dates from the 15th century. It features a medieval stone doorway that is incorporated into the walling. The doorway has a moulded double-ware three-centred arch made of three stones, with a drip mould that is stopped to labels, and the moulding is brought to square stops at the plinth. The opening is filled with brick. The entire structure is set in a rubble wall that is about eight feet high, topped with a squared stone course and finished with a flat concrete slab coping. The wall extends approximately twenty feet to the left (south) and about six feet to the right, where it joins a lower section. The archway is reputed to have originated from Kingswood Abbey, although there is no documentary evidence to support this claim.
