Description
20 Long Street is a 17th-century dwelling that has been converted into an office and shop. The building features dressed squared stone at the ends, with an 18th-century and 19th-century brick main facade, and rubble along with 18th-century brickwork on the return to Orchard Street. It has stone slate roofs and a parallel range with recent extensions. The structure is two storeys high and has two windows on the upper floor, which contain two-light sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor features a broad display window made up of small panes and one fixed sash with glazing bars. There is a two-panel fielded door set back in a deep painted stone reveal, topped with a small hood supported by consoles, as well as a six-panel door in the flank wall. During a survey in 1982, the walls were stripped of rendering, revealing a bressumer at the first floor, wooden lintels, and the ends of transverse beams located well below the eaves level, including a doubled beam centrally and one at each end. The building has since been re-rendered.
