Description
No. 18 is an early 19th-century dwelling shop located on Long Street in Wotton-under-Edge. The building features rendered brickwork and a stone cornice that conceals a slate roof. It has a small frontage that includes a small radius curved return into Orchard Street, along with a long return and a three-bay house framed by rusticated pilaster strips on the left and quoins on the right. The structure is three storeys high and has two windows, which are sashes with glazing bars and wide surrounds.
The shop front, dating from the mid-19th century, is notable for its curved returns, fine lozenge glazing bars, a rendered stall riser, and an original fascia that features carved guilloche decoration, although it has a new central door. The Orchard Street front has a wide-spaced two-window section, plus a three-window facade between the pilaster and quoins. This section contains good sashes with glazing bars set under stepped voussoirs with a keystone. It also features a 19th-century six-panel door with a traceried fanlight, and moulded 'Doric' pilasters topped with a pediment, all made of wood. There is a benchmark on one of the pilasters.
