Description

The Buddings is a dwelling located in Slad, Painswick, which was once known as The Star Inn. It likely has origins from the 17th century, although most of its windows were altered later. The building features painted rubble walls and stone slate roofs, consisting of two slightly different sections. There are stone stacks on the left gable and off-centre on both the left and right sides.

The structure is composed of two units, which were probably originally a main block and a service block, with the entrance now located off-centre to the right at the junction of these units. It is one-and-a-half storeys tall and has a part cellar. The left section has two gabled dormers, each with two lights, positioned above two three-light chamfered mullion casements. There is a 20th-century part-glazed door beneath the right-hand dormer, set into a thicker wall that extends into the main surface at the eaves. Above the door, to the left, is a square stone with a blocked window near the eaves, featuring carved rosettes at the corners. Also integrated into this main wall is a length of vertical timber, which may be a remnant of the roof or other framing. On the far left, there is a well-crafted plank cellar door. The right section includes a gabled dormer with two lights above two and three-light 19th-century casements, along with a 20th-century door and a 20th-century casement. The interior has not been inspected.
