Description

The Star Inn and attached outbuildings is a house that has been converted into an inn. It dates from the late 17th century, with the front block rebuilt around 1800. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a stuccoed front above the ground floor. It features a gabled stone slate roof, with concrete tiles on the rear and brick stacks at the ends. The layout is L-shaped, with a rear left wing. The inn has three storeys and an attic, with a three-window range. Wrought-iron scrolled brackets support a flat hood over a 20th-century central door that has an overlight. The ground floor has flat stone arches over six-pane sash windows, while the upper floors have flat rendered arches over similar horned and unhorned sashes. There is a three-storey stair turret at the rear. The two-storey rear left wing, built in the 17th century with similar materials, has had its eaves heightened around 1800 and features an end stack made of stone finished in brick, along with tripartite and six-pane sashes. Attached to the rear are 18th-century L-shaped one-storey outbuildings, which were formerly stables and coachhouses. These outbuildings are made of limestone rubble and have gabled artificial stone slate roofs, with a through-entry on the left side. Inside, there are stop-chamfered beams in the rear left wing, and winder stairs that rise to the attic.
