Description

Wishaw House is an early 18th-century house located on Woodstock Brown’s Lane. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled stone slate roof and brick end stacks. The original house has a 2-unit plan and is arranged over two storeys with an attic, featuring a symmetrical three-window front. An early 19th-century six-panelled door is set beneath a scrolled wrought-iron bracket with foliate spandrels and a flat stone arch. Mid-19th century canted bay windows with glazing-bar sashes have been added, along with timber lintels over six-pane sashes on the first floor, flanking a blind window with a moulded architrave. Dormer windows light the attic. The interior retains cased beams and a winder staircase to the rear. A later outshut and a 20th-century gabled bay have been added to the rear. A second house, also of early 18th-century origin built of coursed limestone rubble, has a gabled concrete tile roof and brick end stacks and a 2-unit plan as well as being arranged over two storeys; it has a central late 19th-century four-panelled door with a 20th-century gabled hood. Other features include timber lintels over 20th-century windows, a gabled half-dormer with a 20th-century window to the left, and an outshut and gabled bay to the rear. The interior has old beams. The property is included for group value.
