Description

Woodside House is an early to mid-19th century detached villa situated above the road at Slad, Painswick. The villa is constructed of ashlar, with two plain cill bands, a cornice and blocking cornice. The front half of the roof is slate from Wales, while the back half is concrete tile, forming a double span with coped verges and low stacks with cavetto mould copings. The rear section may have been added later as an extension to a simpler original block. It is three storeys high and has a three-window front. The windows are 8 over 16-pane sashes, with two canted bays on the ground floor featuring plate-glass sashes and corniced, peaked glazed tops; a central transom light with margin bars is included. A fine, bold portico with composite fluted columns and an entablature with a dentilled cornice is present. Mullioned windows with stopped hoods are found on the returns. The interior has not been inspected. Woodside House is an elegant example of its type.
