Description
The gazebo, located approximately 35 meters north of Hamfield, is an early 19th-century structure, possibly dating to 1818, the same period as the main house. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a lead roof. This two-storey, single-room bow-front pavilion is integrated into the boundary wall, which extends to the site’s edge.
An external wooden staircase leads up to a six-panel door set in a pointed opening on the right side. The ground floor has a pointed opening at the front, with a two-light casement window above it, and two additional pointed openings with plain glass to the left. Opposite the ground floor opening is a plank and batten door. A stone band runs along the first floor and the parapet, which has battlements.
Inside the small upper room, there is a blocked iron fireplace from the 19th century, featuring fluted jambs and a pedimented overmantel, along with a niche to the left and a 19th-century cornice. The boundary wall to the right is made of well-crafted English garden wall brickwork and includes a niche that holds a late 20th-century statue. This gazebo is a very attractive addition to the house.
