Description
The Falcon Hotel is an inn located at the end of a row of buildings on Painswick New Street. A datestone above the door indicates it was built in 1711, although it features early 19th-century window designs. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone, which may have been rendered in the past, with rusticated quoins and rubble returns. There are some ashlar additions and wings, and the roof is covered with Welsh slate.
The main block has a plain front and is three storeys high with three windows. The ground and first floors feature triple 4:12:4-pane sash windows, while the second floor has 6-pane sashes. The ground and first floors have bull-nosed cills. The central entrance has a pair of well-crafted 18th-century panelled doors set in a stone surround, complete with vertical console brackets and a wide flat cornice. The left side of the building has a segmental-headed opening leading to a collar, along with later openings. A wooden moulded cornice hides the guttering, and the plinth extends down to the pavement. The service wing, added in the later 19th century, is situated at the back right of the building. The interior has been significantly altered in the 20th century.
