Description

Dean Croft is a 17th-century house located on Broad Street in Littledean. It is constructed of stone with painted rough render and features a tiled roof. The building has a two-room layout with a central porch and a gabled front. It is two stories high with attics, although the right-hand rooms are set higher than the left, which has a cellar underneath. There is a gable chimney on the left and a lateral chimney on the right.

The central porch projects forward, and the first-floor room extends partly into the roof space. The front door has a cambered head and an ovolo-moulded surround, with a two-light wooden casement window above it featuring a plain chamfer and a hoodmould. To the left, there are three-light wooden casement windows on both the ground and first floors, each with hoodmoulds; the upper window is original and has a plain chamfer, while a two-light window is set in the gable above. On the right side, there is a 19th-century three-light window on the ground floor, a two-light window above, and a small original two-light window high up in the gable.

The eaves on the right side are higher than those on the left, and the roof slope changes over the left gable. Inside, the entrance from the porch leads to the right-hand room, with steps down to the left. There are spiral stairs by both chimneys, with the right-hand stairs causing a bulge in the rear wall. The upper section of the left-hand stairs has solid timber treads. Originally, there was no communication between the rooms on both upper floors. The house is oriented at right angles to the road.
