Description

Stanley House is a 17th-century house, believed to have been built around 1640. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, with the left-hand bay pebbledashed and featuring a slate roof, while the other bays, which are currently unoccupied, have stone slates that are partly missing. The house has three storeys, with two bays to the left of a three-storey porch and one bay to the right. A stone cornice runs along the top of the building.

The windows are mullioned, with an outer chamfer on the ground and first floors, and they are topped with hoods. The first and second bays have six-light windows on the ground floor and five-light windows on the first floor. The right-hand bay also has six-light windows on both the ground and first floors, while the second floor features three-light windows. The porch includes three-light windows, with the upper one stepped. Below the first-floor window is a blank panel with a moulded border. The porch doorway has a cambered head and moulded jambs.

Chimneys are located on the gables, featuring projecting stacks, and are aligned with the porch. Inside, the door opens against the side of the hall fireplace, which has a moulded bressumer and jambs. The doorway from the lobby into the right-hand room has been bricked up, and a new doorway has been created at the rear of the stack. At the back of the hall, there is a stair projection that no longer contains its original stair. The left-hand wall of the hall, which separates it from the occupied part of the house, is a later replacement made of brick. The right-hand room features heavy roll-moulded beams and a large blocked fireplace with moulded jambs. On the first floor, there are reportedly two fireplaces with cambered bressumers and moulded surrounds.
