Description
The Old Manse is a 17th-century house located on Bath Road in Beckington. It is constructed of rubble with a stone tile roof and features three brick chimneys. The building has two storeys and attics, characterized by three gables that have copings and "onion" finials. The façade consists of four bays with 2, 3, and 4-light ovolo moulded stone mullioned windows, which are set under stopped labels. The first-floor windows are transomed, while the ground floor has 19th-century 4-light sash windows; the paired windows on the right are framed in a bead moulded stone surround, and the left window is positioned under a dripmould.
The central entrance has a broad elliptical-headed stone surround, with 20th-century recessed glazed doors behind paired wrought iron railed gates. There is also a narrow door to the left, which features a plank door with panelling. Inside, the house retains many original features, including a staircase with heavy turned balusters and pierced splat balusters, newels topped with finials, a decorative plaster ceiling on the first floor, a plaster overmantle, and fireplaces set in four-centred stone surrounds.
