Description

The Cedars is a house located on Bath Road in Beckington, dating from the 17th century with alterations made in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of rubble with a stone tiled roof and features brick and ashlar stacks with moulded caps. The building has two storeys and attics, characterized by three gables that have copings with saddle stones and small onion finials. The first floor has a symmetrical arrangement of windows with two bays on either side of a central bay, featuring sash windows with glazing bars set in moulded stone surrounds, and each window is topped with a moulded stone cornice-hood. The entrance has a stone architrave door opening with a six-panelled door, where the top two panels are glazed. This door is framed by a stone door-case with an entablature and a segmental pediment supported by engaged columns, accessed by three stone steps. The right return of the house is designed in a similar style. Inside, the ground floor features several original elements, including a right room with a moulded frieze and a fireplace set in a four-centred stone surround, as well as a further plaster frieze in the left ground floor room. To the north, the garden is enclosed by a high rubble wall with coping, and there is a gazebo located at the north-east corner of the garden.
