Description
The Hawthorns is a house dating from the 17th century that was restored in the mid-19th century. It features a gabled facade made of random rubble with dressed quoins, a coped verge, and an ashlar stack with a moulded cap at the apex. There is also a brick and ashlar stack that rises from the eaves on the right side. The roof is covered with double-Roman tiles and has a ridge that runs at right angles to the front of the house.
The building has an L-plan and an irregular front, standing two storeys high with an attic and one bay. It includes 2 and 3-light moulded stone-mullioned windows with stopped labels, and a moulded string at the first floor level. There is a two-storey wing of one bay that is set back at right angles to the left side, featuring sashes with glazing bars in plain stone surrounds. The main entrance is through a projecting ashlar porch with a pent roof, which contains a gothicised ribbed door with four panels and a four-centred head. On the return to Goose Street, there is one bay with 2-light moulded stone-mullioned windows and a string at the first floor level.
