Description
The Boot is a 17th-century house located on Boot Street in Great Bealings. It features a timber frame with a brick skin, pebbledashed and colourwashed render, and a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and follows a three-cell baffle-entry plan.
On the entrance front, there is a 20th-century gabled single-storey porch positioned left of centre, which includes a door with six raised and fielded panels. Flanking the porch are 20th-century three-light casement windows with metal frames, and to the far right, there is another 20th-century window next to a blocked doorway. The first floor has three two-light metal-framed casement windows and one single light window. A T-shaped chimney stack with three flues is located at the ridge of the gabled roof, slightly left of centre. The right gable end features a lean-to outshut at ground floor level and a two-light window on the first floor. The rear of the building has an outshut that extends the full length, concealing both floors.
Inside, the ground floor showcases chamfered ceiling beams with stepped run-out end-stops and similarly moulded joists. The walls display close studding and wall posts. A staircase is situated on the far side of the chimney stack from the lobby. The first floor rooms have jowled wall posts and cambered tie beams.
