Description

The Great Bealings War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1919 and altered after the Second World War. It is made of Cornish granite and is situated opposite the entrance to the Church of St Mary, at the junction of Boot Street and Bealings Lane, on a raised and paved area.

The memorial features a wheel cross in the Celtic style, which stands on a trapezoidal plinth and rectangular base. The main inscription on the front of the plinth, made with leaded letters, reads: "IN HONOURED MEMORY / OF THE GREAT BEALINGS MEN / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914–1918," followed by the names of the 14 men who died and their regiments. Below this, there is an inscription that includes "1939," the name and regiment of one individual who fell, and "1945." The front face of the rectangular base has the inscription "LEST WE FORGET."
