Built as Forestry School but never used as such, became National Coal Board offices, now a school. 1915, by C.E. Varndel, from bronze plaque in porch. Rockface rubblestone with dressed stone to quoins and windows, slate roof with overhanging eaves and cast iron gutters. Date also on rain water hopper on wing to left. 'L' plan with hall in main block and small non-projecting gable to right, with lower wing and additional entrance to left. Main entrance is Jacobean-style porch with gable and 3 finials, cambered arch with narrower panelled door. 3 and 4-light stone mullion windows to main block and mullion and transom windows to cross gables, all leaded and with original metal window fittings in Art Nouveau style. On left return, part corbelled external stone stack with small 3-light stone mullion window in central panel and with scrolls at weathered offsets. Interior is mainly as originally completed with large 6-bay hall with timber trusses on corbels and 2 fine flat 3-centred archways.
