Description

This is a lodge, likely built in 1675 as part of the Forest of Dean’s network of lodges, with alterations and extensions in the 19th century. It is constructed of pebbledashed rubble stone with a slate roof and features two gable stacks. The lodge is a single range with two projecting gables at the rear, dating to the 19th century. It has two storeys and two windows, featuring casement windows with large plain stone lintels on the ground floor. A central doorway has an ogee-moulded surround and high steps, now with a projecting glazed porch of around 1900 housing half-glazed doors. Small windows in the end gables illuminate staircases. The interior has been altered but retains floor beams and three roof trusses, the central one being a King post truss with staggered and trenched purlins. Key features include two stone fireplaces at each end, with a newel staircase wrapped around each. The fireplace on the south side has been blocked off between the ground and first floors. The lodge is historically significant as one of the former lodges within the Forest of Dean.
