Description

The Bellamy monument and headstone, located about 15 meters south-southeast of the north gate to Bell Lane at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, consists of a chest tomb and headstone dating from 1775 and 1677, respectively. The chest tomb is rectangular with a short headstone positioned against its west end. It features a markedly weathered top with a moulded edge, large raised oval panels on the sides with paterae in the corners, and elongated rectangular balusters on the ends topped with fluted 'capitals'. At the west end, there is a shield with a coat of arms, while the feature at the east end is too weathered to identify. The chest tomb has a moulded base and commemorates William Bellamy, who died in 1775, his wife who died in 1792, and their two sons who died in 1777 and 1793, with later inscriptions added up to 1879. The initial inscription is well carved and uses a long 's'. The headstone against the west end is dedicated to Samuel Bellamy, who died in 1677. It has a steeply cambered top with scrolled ends, a raised margin around the edge, and is carved with a wavy scroll. The lettering is well cut.
