Description

This is a cast-iron road marker located on Blakeney Hill Road, commemorating the creation of the road through the Royal Forest of Dean in 1903.

The marker is a semi-circular headed plaque, approximately 0.6 meters high, featuring a raised rim and lettering. It includes an extensive inscription that reads: "THIS ROAD FOR A DISTANCE / OF 1240 YARDS [left arrow] WAS MADE / AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CROWN / FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE / INHABITANTS OF THE FOREST / AND DISTRICT / 1905 / E STAFFORD HOWARD ESQ / COMMISSIONER / PHILIP BAYLIS / DEP[UTY] SURV [EYOR]."
