Description
This road marker, located just east of the junction with Valley Road on the south side, was created in 1898 and is made of cast iron. It features a self-supporting plate resembling a milestone, with a semi-circular head, raised rim, and lettering. The inscription reads: 'VR THIS ROAD FOR THE DISTANCE OF 1100 YARDS (arrow points to left) WAS MADE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CROWN FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS AND DISTRICT 1897-8 E STAFFORD HOWARD ESQ COMMISSIONER PHILIP BAYLIS ESQ DEP SUR.' This plaque is quite unusual and is one of four similar markers in Cinderford.
