Description

BOXWELL WITH THE STREET (Leighterton Village ST 8291 east side) LEIGHTERTON 2/18 Unidentified monument in the churchyard approximately 5m south-east of porch to Church of St. Andrew

GV II*

Pedestal tomb. Dated 1700. Limestone. Rectangular with corner balusters and bow ends each with carving: serpent of eternity with fronds and open book to east above winged hour glass; 3 cherub's heads to west. Rococo anthropomorphic side inscription panels, inscriptions just visible to north. Cyma moulded top; plain plinth. Only date on inscription legible. A fine early Rococo tomb.
