Description

The barn at Castle Farm is an 18th-century structure with an attached 19th-century stable, located in Leighterton Village. It is built from random rubble limestone and features a stone slate roof, with pantiles on the stable. The barn has five bays and porches on both the east and west sides, with an attached stable at the southern end.

On the west side, there is a central gabled porch that includes a timber lintel above the barn doorway, which has 19th-century plank doors. To the left of the porch, there is a lean-to clad in corrugated iron. The stable is on the right and has a doorway with a timber lintel leading to stone stairs that ascend to a loft doorway, which is topped with a weatherboarded gable.

The east side features a gabled porch with a lower doorway compared to the west side, and there is a relieving arch above it. An adjacent large open shed is not considered of special interest. The north gable end has a triangular vent positioned high in the apex, with a loft doorway located below it. Inside, the barn has a roof supported by a 5-bay collar and tie-beam truss. This barn is part of a picturesque group situated to the north of the Church of St. Andrew.
