Description
The Wane monument is a chest tomb located about 3.7 meters west of the main door in the grounds of Fairford United Church. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a stepped tent top with a curved upper section and roll moulding, along with gadrooned capping and a moulded plinth resting on a plain base. The sides and ends are plain, and the frieze is also unadorned. The earliest inscription on the tomb is for Jonathan Wane, who died in 1744, located on the west side, followed by John Wane, who died in 1761, and Mary Wane, who died in 1821, on the east side. The north side bears the inscription for William Wane, who died in 1857. The monument is positioned to the west of the main approach path to the Chapel and measures approximately 1,510 millimeters long, 1,030 millimeters wide, and about 1,200 millimeters high.
