Description

The Thomas Hooke monument is a chest tomb located about 8 meters north of the main door in the grounds of Fairford United Church. It dates from the late 18th century and is associated with the Hooke family. The tomb is made of limestone and features a shallow tent top with a moulded capping and a bold moulded plinth that has rounded corners. It has a tripartite frieze and fluted Ionic corner columns, although the columns on the south-west and north-east sides were missing at the time of the survey in October 1985. The sides and ends of the tomb are plain and bear inscriptions: "Thomas 1779" on the west side, "Charles 1814" on the south side, and "William 1830" on the north side. The dimensions of the tomb are approximately 1,800 mm long, 1,010 mm wide, and 1,480 mm high.
