SP 00 SE AMPNEY ST. MARY A417 (north side), Ampney St. Peter

5/55 Barn and adjoining stable immediately east of Can Court

GV II

Barn and adjoining stable with loft. Probably mid/late C18. Coursed rubble stone with alternating flush quoins, stone slate roof. Barn has central flush cart entry on west side with notched timber lintel and double timber doors. Opposed projecting gabled entry with flush quoins, timber lintel and double timber doors and small 2-light window over. Lean-to on north side projects on east, with originally a 2-bay animal shelter between lean-to and cart entry, with square stone pillar, now with doors to each bay and corrugated iron roof. Lean-to to left with double Roman tiles and wooden strut, and corrugated iron lean-to beyond. Five bays with true tie beams to each side of opposed entries, and tie beams bolted to principal rafters on each side, each truss also with collar beam. Stable to south has small lean-to in angle with barn on west side, stable door and small 2-light window. Gabled loft opening to east with shutters, and small hopper light to left, with blocked doorway on ground floor between. Internal stalls and cobbled floor remain.
