2/72 Hillview II
Former row of three cottages now one. C17-early C18, mid C18 and C20. Coursed squared and dressed limestone, most finely dressed stone at right-hand end. Stone slate and concrete tiles, thatch and slate roofing. Brick and artificial stone stacks. Rectangular plan. C20 lean-to at right gable end not of special interest. Mid C18 cottage at left end with facade rebuilt in C19; 2 storeys, 2- windowed, all C20 steel casements with horizontal glazing bars at front, one single and one 2-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned window at rear., Two flat-chamfered 'Tudor'-arched doorways with plank doors far left and far right. Thatched part at centre of row; 1½ storeys with 2 eyebrow dormers to upper floor. C20 part- glazed door lower left. Blocked doorway with window inserted right. Right-hand end with stone slate roof; raking dormer to first floor. All windows 2, 3 and 4-light casements with horizontal glazing bars. Stacks at gable ends of part with stone slate roof. Flat gable end coping at right gable end. Axial stack to mid C18 part. Thatched element forms a rare survival of a form of roofing material once common on low status buildings and agricultural buildings in the area. Interior not inspected.
