Description

A complex of farm buildings at Smerrill Farm, likely dating from the late 18th century, is constructed of random coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof. The complex comprises two adjoining barns and a stable. The barns consist of a five-bay barn to the left and a three-bay barn to the right, both featuring collar and tie beam trusses and a dividing partition wall. The smaller barn has a slightly lower roofline. Each barn has a projecting gabled cart entry on its south-east face. The left-hand barn has double doors replaced with corrugated plastic sheeting, and a gabled entry on the north-west side. The right-hand barn retains double doors and a flush entry on its north-west side. A lean-to roof extends between these projecting entries, supported by two wooden posts. Attached to the far right is a lower stable building with a stable door, a brick floor, and restored wooden stalls and manger. The buildings are currently used as a museum of farm implements and practices.
