Description
Clayfurlong House is a farmhouse dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof, although the rear of the main range features concrete tiles. The building has scattered diagonally-set ashlar flues on stone stacks. A large square two-storey wing is located to the south, accompanied by a lower rear service wing that has a single storey and an attic with two gabled dormers.
The south front of the main range includes three windows with 3/2/3-light stone mullions, each featuring square hoodmoulds and decorative lozenge-shaped leading. The right side has a triple sash window with a canted bay below. There is a central projecting gabled porch with a coped verge and kneelers. The roof of the service wing has been swept forward to create a verandah supported by wooden struts and end walls. A wall at right angles conceals steps leading up to the entrance. The ground floor behind the verandah features two central doors flanked by two-light casements, all with flush stone lintels. On the right-hand return, there is a flight of 17 stone steps leading up to a loft door, with a lean-to immediately behind, which may serve as a storage area, complete with a stack directly above.
