Description

Ewen House is a large, detached house located in Kemble Ewen. It was originally built in the mid-17th century and significantly enlarged in the early 18th century. The house is constructed of random coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof, featuring three stone stacks and a hipped southeast corner. It has an L-shaped plan with a clear line indicating a later addition to the north, and another section stepping down in height twice to the west. The house is mostly two storeys high with an attic.

The east side of the house features a blind wall on the north addition. It has two-light stone mullion and transom windows with square hoodmolds. The ground floor on the east side has one two-light and one three-light window. The south front has a scattered pattern of windows and a door consisting of six fielded panels. The rear elevation has scattered fenestration, primarily leaded casement windows with timber lintels. A single two-light stone mullion and transom window is present on the oldest section of the rear. Three small gabled dormers are visible at the rear, along with a single-storey lean-to in the angle of the building. This building has group value from its contribution to the architectural landscape of the area.
