Description
The Paul memorial is a chest tomb located about 8 meters southeast of the chancel in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary. It commemorates Sarah Paul, who died in 1796, Elizabeth Cooper, who died in 1809, and Charles Brown, who died in 1903. The tomb is made of limestone and features a moulded plinth and capping. Its elaborately carved frieze includes alternating square panels of fluting and patera. The end panels display crossed torches on the west side and crossed trumpets on the east side. There are oval inscription panels on the north and south sides, flanked by fluted pilaster strips. The south panel has an egg and dart moulded edge, while the north panel features a shell design in the spandrels. The tomb is topped with an elaborate carved pyramidal lid resting on square feet, complete with an urn finial.
