Description

This large barn, possibly dating from the late 17th century, is located immediately to the northeast of Forty Farmhouse in Preston Village. It is constructed of rubble stone with flush quoins and features a stone slate roof. On the south side, there is a large projecting gabled cart entry to the left, which has a boarded gable, a timber lintel, and double timber doors. To the right, there is a lean-to that covers the rest of the south side, along with the remains of a former larger lean-to to the left, which is now lower and has a corrugated-iron roof. There is a lower double-width cart entry with double doors in the lean-to on the right, as well as a small doorway at the far right. The north side has two opposed flush entries, both of which are filled in at the top, with brick on the right and wood on the left. The interior is not accessible.
