Description
This large barn, dating from the mid-19th century, is located immediately southwest of Bowldown Farmhouse. It is constructed of rubble stone with flush quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn has opposed projecting cart entries on its slightly higher main section to the north, which is likely nine bays long, although the roof and entire length are obscured from interior viewing.
The eastern entry has a brick gable with a cambered relieving arch and a stone keystone, which probably originally supported a datestone. It includes lower-level plank doors set into moulded stiles and rails, adorned with decorative strap hinges, and features a clock face in the gable. There are flanking stone lean-tos on either side. The opposed entry is wider and hipped, with a timber lintel and double timber doors, as well as 20th-century lean-tos on each side. On the east side, there is a former flush entry that has been blocked, located immediately to the left of a drop in the roof line. This section is currently inaccessible.
