Description
Bowldown Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the late 17th century. It was rebuilt and enlarged, probably by Lewis Vulliamy, in the mid-19th century, and underwent further restoration and enlargement at the rear and right in the 20th century. The building is constructed of random coursed stone with flush quoins and features a stone slate roof. It has ashlar end stacks with twin square flues and an offset, moulded cornice. The farmhouse is designed in an L-plan, with 20th-century ranges added in the angle and to the right. The main front range has two storeys and an attic, while the rear has two storeys.
The facade is nearly symmetrical, comprising four bays with two gables that form full dormers at each end. Each dormer features two-light stone mullions with plain casements. On the first floor, there are three and two-light windows on each side, and the ground floor has four and two-light windows, with the right-hand two-light window replaced by a half-glazed door. There are also blocked stone lights from the original building on the left-hand return.
