Description

A group of five chest tombs, dating from the early 19th century, is located about 7 to 12 meters from the northeast corner of the north aisle in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary. These tombs are made of limestone and feature flat tops with inscriptions carved on them, along with tooled edges. Some tombs also have inscriptions on the sides. The long sides of each tomb are divided into two smaller rectangular panels with incised edging. The earliest decipherable inscriptions include Sarah Warn, who died in 1811; an unidentified individual who died in 1817; Maria Cole, who died in 1868; Ann Rowe, who died in 1800; and Isaac Walker, with an undeciphered date.
