Description

The Caretaker's Residence at the entrance to Ullenwood Manor is a lodge built around 1875 by Mr. William Hall as part of the Ullenwood Manor estate for his daughter. It has a 'T'-shaped plan and is constructed from rock-faced limestone with dressed stone quoins, topped with a slate roof featuring ashlar stacks. The building rises 1½ to 2½ storeys.

The entrance front faces the drive and features a canted 5-light bay window with flat-chamfered mullions and a transom. Above this, there is a small rectangular window with a flat-chamfered surround set into the shaped gable. The part-glazed panelled door is set back within a moulded 4-centred arched surround, complete with a moulded hood and head stops to the right.

On the north front, which faces the road, a shaped gable projects forwards to the left. This side includes a 3-light window with mullions and transoms at the ground floor, and a string course above adorned with large lion and sheep-like grotesques at each corner. Above the string course of the gable, there is a plain heraldic shield with a strapwork surround, along with a single-light window featuring a flat-chamfered surround towards the apex of the gable. The gables are topped with pierced finials, and the parapet has pierced strapwork. The building has gable-end and axial stacks with circular shafts and moulded cappings. The interior has not been inspected.
