Description

Cemetery Lodge was built in 1871, designed by Medland of Gloucester and constructed by W Hinton of Cirencester. The lodge is built of rock-faced limestone with ashlar dressings and has clay tile roofs. It features ashlar stacks, one with a moulded top to the left side, a stone stack on the gable end to the rear, and a further stack to the rear of a single-storey wing, where the top has been rebuilt in concrete blockwork. The lodge comprises a single-storey and attic section with a gabled front, and a projecting single-storey wing to the right, with 20th-century additions to the left side and rear.

The front has a two-window range. The ground floor features a single three-light chamfered stone mullion window with 19th-century iron casements and a hoodmould with foliar stops and relieving arch to the left. To the right, in the single-storey wing, is a two-light chamfered stone mullion window with 19th-century iron casements. The attic to the left has a two-light chamfered stone mullion window with cusped-headed lights and 19th-century iron casements. A recessed panel above the window displays the date 1871 under a hoodmould with foliar stops.

A gabled porch in the angle between the two ranges has a pointed plank door with decorative strap hinges and a 19th-century knocker, set within a moulded stone surround with a hoodmould with foliar stops. The end of the single-storey wing to the right has a canted bay with three lancet windows with cusped heads, 19th-century casements, a moulded cill band, and a corniced, weathered ashlar hood. A trefoil opening is visible in the gable to the left, and the gable and porch have weathered copings with trefoil finials. The interior of the lodge has not been inspected.
