Description
The cemetery wall, railings, and gates were built in 1871 by Medland of Gloucester and constructed by W Hinton of Cirencester. The structure is made of limestone ashlar and features cast- and wrought-iron railings and gates. The wall is approximately 0.5 meters high and has a weathered coping topped by railings with spear tops, also about 0.5 meters high. Each section of the railings includes two uprights with foliated tops and is divided into sections approximately 4 meters long, supported by 33 stone piers that are about 1.5 meters high, square in shape with beaded corners and weathered caps. There are five larger piers that have recessed quatrefoil panels and crocketed caps. The main gates are set back to the center and are flanked by linking quadrants of wall, featuring elaborate cast and wrought-iron panels. These gates are accompanied by two gate piers similar to the larger piers, topped with crocketed finials. A further pair of gates, designed similarly to the railings, is located at the left end.
