Description
Cemetery Lodge is a caretaker's lodge located at Duffield Cemetery, built in 1880. It is constructed from rock-faced gritstone with gritstone dressings and features a plain tile roof that is half hipped to the south. The building has two storeys with irregular plans and elevations. A squat tower is situated in the southeast corner, which incorporates the staircase.
The east elevation consists of three bays. The staircase tower has three stepped lancets and two slit windows above, while there are four slit windows on the return elevation. To the right, there is a shallow bay window with a hipped roof and a 3-light chamfered mullion and transom window. Above this, there is a similar 3-light window with inset gothic lights. Further to the right, there is a small 2-light chamfered mullion window. On the left side, there is a lean-to porch supported by a stone pier with a foliage capital, which has later wooden infill enclosing it. The south elevation features a shallow canted bay window and a window above, resembling those on the east elevation.
