Description

The monument to the horse Continental, dated 1902, is made of large blocks of roughly squared and dressed stone arranged to form a rough pyramid. It was formerly enclosed by an iron railing. The inscription reads: 'To THE MEMORY OF / THE CONTINENTAL / -------Y. -------D FAIR HAVEN /. FOALED 1891 DIED 1902 / AND THE FAVORITE HORSE / OF CECIL ELWES / BY WHOM THESE THINGS WERE WRITTEN'.
