Description
Moat Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the late 16th to mid-17th century. It is located on the south side of Kidnappers Lane in Leckhampton. The cottage is timber-framed with rendered and painted brick infill, sitting on a limestone plinth, and has a thatched roof with decorative ridge thatching. A 20th-century extension is not of special interest.
The western front has four 20th-century two-light casement windows with heavily leaded diamond panes on the ground floor, reflecting the timber framing. A 20th-century plank door is located towards the left gable end, and there are two small dormers, one with diamond-leaded panes. The left gable end has been clad in 20th-century timber framing, concealing the base of the cruck truss which projects outwards on both sides. The eastern front has five 20th-century two-light casement windows at the rear, with heavy diamond leading, and a 20th-century glass door on the far left.
Inside, there is an open fireplace with a bressumer beam at what was the gable end of the original section. The cottage contains at least two full cruck trusses, one with a yoke visible at the apex, and one arch-braced truss.
