Description

West Lodge is a former estate workers cottage built around 1875 as part of the Ullenwood Manor estate, created for the daughter of Mr. William Hall. The building exhibits details of both Renaissance and late Gothic styles. Constructed from rock-faced limestone with dressed quoins, it has a slate roof and ashlar stacks. The rectangular plan includes a gable end facing the road, featuring a three-light stone-mullioned casement window on the ground floor and a stone-mullioned cross window above. A string course runs between the ground and first floors. A part-glazed panelled door is set back, framed by a moulded four-centred arched surround to the lower right. The left-hand return features a projecting gable and a canted bay window with stone mullions and transoms on the ground floor, with a further stone-mullioned cross window above and to the right of the gable. A pierced strapwork parapet tops the building, embellished with stepped gable-end coping and pierced pointed finials. An axial stack includes four circular flues with moulded cappings. The interior remains uninspected.
