Description
32 Market Street is a cottage located in Hatherleigh, dating from the late 17th century with a 19th or 20th-century addition. The cottage features plastered cob walls and a gable-ended thatch roof, with a brick stack on a projecting plastered rubble base at the right-hand end. The layout consists of one heated room, with a single-room rear addition from the 19th or 20th century.
The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with a single window. The first floor has a 19th-century three-light casement window with square section mullions, while the ground floor features a 20th-century large-paned two-light casement window. To the left of the window is a plank door that dates from the 18th or 19th century. Inside, the cottage has rough heavy axial beams, and the fireplace includes a roughly chamfered wooden lintel that may have been reused. The roof timbers are not visible on the first floor.
