Description

Swanstone Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a 20th-century addition. It features rendered cob walls and a thatched roof, which is hipped to the left and gabled to the right. There is a brick stack at the right-hand gable end. The cottage has a two-room plan, with the larger room on the right heated by a gable end fireplace, while the smaller room on the left is unheated. A straight staircase is situated between the two rooms.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with two windows, featuring late 20th-century, two-light casements. To the left of the centre, there is a 20th-century gabled thatched porch with a mid-19th-century panelled door behind it. The rear includes a one-storey addition from the 20th century.

Inside, the ceiling beams in the kitchen on the right have been replaced, while the small room on the left retains its original joists and has been divided to create a small larder at the back. The fireplace lintel in the right-hand room has also been replaced. The staircase has been replaced but is likely in its original position, rising from a lobby to the front doorway. The feet of the straight principals are visible in the first-floor rooms.
