Description
EXBOURNE SS 60 SW 5/42 Swanstone Cottage II
Cottage. Circa late Cl7 or early C18 with C20 addition. Rendered cob walls. Thatched roof, hipped to left, gabled to right. Brick stack at right hand gable end. Plan: 2-room plan, larger right hand room heated from a gable end fireplace. small unheated to left with straight staircase between the 2 rooms. C20 addition at rear. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2-window front of late C20, 2-light casements. C20 gabled thatched porch to left of centre with mid-C19 panelled door behind. C20 1-storey addition at rear. Interior: The ceiling beams in the kitchen to the right have been replaced; the small room to the left has original joists and is now divided axially to form a small larder at the back. The fireplace lintel in the right hand room have been replaced. The staircase has also been replaced but it is probably in the original position between the 2 rooms rising from a lobby to the front doorway. Roof: The feet of the straight principals are visible in the first floor rooms.
