Description

Daccombe Mill is a cottage dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It has been significantly altered and extended, likely in the 20th century. The walls are made of rendered cob with some brick repairs, and it features a hipped thatched roof that extends over a lean-to on the right side. There are two rendered rubble stacks, one at the rear and the other projecting from the left end of the original house.

Originally, the cottage had a two heated room plan, with a gable end stack in the left room and a rear lateral stack in the right room, which has now been combined into one room with extensions at either end. The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with two mid-20th century two-light casement windows that have diamond leaded panes. There is a larger similar window in the lean-to on the right. A porch on the left end of the front has a wood shingle roof, a similar two-light window, and a 20th-century plank and glazed door on the left side. A single-storey addition from the 20th century is set back from the left end.

Inside, the lintels above both fireplaces appear to have been replaced in the 20th century, and the original staircase has been removed. A notable feature is a shallow wall cupboard to the right of the lateral fireplace, which seems to date from the 17th century and is elaborately carved with a double arched opening, likely re-used from another building. The roof trusses are probably from the 19th century and have straight principals with lapped and pegged collars.
