Description
The Churchyard Cross, located approximately 11 metres south of the Church of St Bartholomew in Coffinswell, is a Grade II listed structure. It is probably of late Medieval origin and was restored and possibly re-sited in 1919. The cross is made of granite and features a Maltese design with a shaft that is larger than its arms. The edges of the shaft are chamfered and have cushion stops. Both the front and rear faces of the cross have a mortice at the center, though its purpose is unclear. The cross stands on a square base made of red sandstone, which is bare and octagonal on top, also featuring cushion stops; this base is likely re-used. The entire structure rests on a large flat base that has a plaque with a Latin inscription dated 1919.
