Description

The building is a barn, cartshed, and stables at Morwellham Farm, dating from around the mid-19th century. It is constructed from local shale rubble and slate, featuring gabled ends. The structure is L-shaped, with a barn on the left, a three-bay cartshed in the center, and stables in a projecting wing to the right.

The barn on the left is a single storey with steps leading up to a wide doorway that has double doors, and there is a lean-to shed on the left side of the front. The central three-bay cartshed is open-fronted and supported by two monolithic granite square posts topped with large square granite lintels. Above the cartshed, there are three loft openings with slatted louvres.

To the right, the stables project with a gable that includes a ground floor window, a loft opening, and a ventilation slat above, along with a doorway on the left return. At the rear, there is a doorway in the barn on the right and loft doorways over the cartshed and stables to the left. At the far right end, five rectangular slate rubble piers support the launder that provides water to the water wheel inside the barn.

Inside the barn, at the left (wet) end, there is an overhot coater wheel with rim drive and a wooden chaff conveyor. The roof retains its 19th-century pegged and bolted trusses.
